On 5th August 2010, water was admitted to the newly constructed length of canal beyond the present stop lock at Snarestone. The event was attended by ITV Central News, and newspaper reporters, which should create good publicity for further restoration efforts. Work on the slipway is now almost complete. The canal now extends almost as far as the pumping station.
The new length will be officially opened in Spetember - date yet to be announced. ACA will hold a social event for members in September to mark the restoration - exact details will be posted on this web-site nearer the time.
the ACA treasurer has launched an appeal to members and supporters to "buy a pile" for the future restoration of the canal. Donors of £25 or more will receive a commemorative certificate. Smaller donations - of any amount- are most welcome. Monies raised will go into a Restoration Fund to help ACA contribute to restoring a further length of canal, beyond the newly restored stretch.
Donations may be sent to the treasurer at 12 Loudoun Way, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leics LE65 2NP - making cheques payable to Ashby Canal Association please. (click here for appeal letter) |
