“The Earth – Our Wealth” – South Derbyshire’s Industrial Heritage
Tony Hurrell from Sharpe’s Pottery Museum presents a talk, illustrated with slides and video, about the industries connected in the South Derbyshire area – clay, coal, pottery, etc.
The well-known Measham-ware, long associated with the Ashby Canal, was produced in this area. South Derbyshire is a region with a rich history of coal mining, clay and limestone extraction, and pottery. The Ashby Canal was instrumental in transporting coal and limestone from the Ashby Woulds area.
This promises to be a fascinating talk by an expert speaker.
